Tell us about how you started making Jewellery?
I started making beaded costume jewellery when I worked as a production editor on national women’s and style magazines in the 90s and early Naughties. Friends would ask me to make them one, and one of my fish charm bracelets was spotted by the fashion editor of Elle. She featured it on one of Elle’s style pages and gradually business just snow-balled. My costume jewellery label Lily the Pink was launched in 2002.
What inspires your work?
Anything and everything: the kinetic toys I played with as a child on visits to the V&A Museum of Childhood in East London, a petrol blue silk dress against a gold necklace, the curve of a beautiful staircase, last year’s Henry Moore exhibition at Tate Britain. I keep my mind and eyes open wherever I go.
I became obsessed with teal and gold as a colour combination after seeing this intimate portrait of Sam Taylor Wood – and those heels are to die for!

I love the dramatic curve of this beautiful staircase.
What is your favourite piece?
My large gold vermeil and ebony bird necklace - it’s a big statement piece that I love wearing out at night with a simple silk tunic top – it always attracts a lot of attention.
How do you create a collection?
By getting out and about with my sketchbook. I draw and draw until the germ of an idea starts to take hold. I then mull it over in my head for a long time – I get some of my best ideas at night in bed! But often the design I have in my head changes once I get to my workbench – that’s when I realize a design doesn’t hang properly, or looks too clunky or wouldn’t be comfortable to wear.

The kinetic movement of a horse is captured on this Tate catalogue – my jewellery is all about movement
What is your Brand ethos? Simple, paired-down elegance with a twist.
Tell us about the materials you work with?
I choose my materials very carefully to reflect my brand ethos – whether it’s sleek, glossy acrylic or the deep sheen of polished ebony. These less traditional materials are always paired with sterling silver and 18ct gold vermeil for a truly stunning combination.
