Jianhui London

Designer Jianhui (pronounced Janway) began his story in a rural village in one of the poorest areas of China. Jianhui which means ‘building a splendid life’, was given this name by his mother who hoped one day her son would achieve great things. As his parents could not afford the 20p a term to send him to school, Jianhui would spend his days in the mountains where he became fascinated by nature. He loved to look at the wonderful array of flowers which were a total contrast to the grey and impoverish life he lead.

At school Jianhui began to flourish both creatively and academically. He studied ceramics in China and then came to the UK where he studied for an MBA. On arriving in London Jianhui became fascinated by the beauty of the city and its people. In preparing for a return visit to China, Jianhui decided to make his mother some jewellery similar to that he had seen the women in London wearing. He picked up second-hand pieces in Portobello Road and recreated the beautiful flowers that had captured his childhood imagination. Jianhui London was born and over the past five years the company has flourished.
