Momocreatura

Momocreatura

Momocreatura was founded by Momoko Tamura who studied fine arts and trained in jewellery making in Japan. She graduated in MA Jewellery at Central St. Martins in 2009.

She sees jewellery not as a fashion statement but as a statement of one’s identity or spirit. Jewellery can be the most intimate of human artefacts, as it can be used to project one’s values. She tries to create unique and timeless pieces that hopefully would be treasured by those who own them. The pieces from momocreatura are more like 3D illustration or wearable sculpture, and she uses jewellery design as the medium to express her aesthetics and ideas. The influences for the collections are drawn from the conflict between Japanese heritage and European culture, old and modern. She takes two seemingly opposing ideas and merges them together. More specifically, a lot of inspiration comes from her childhood curiosities, exploring the boundaries between fantasy and reality. This experiment is combined together to create handcrafted assemblage of day-dreams and ambiguous humour.
